Where are you based?
We are based in South West London, United Kingdom. We can see some green, some rooftops and what might be a giant, sprawling kingdom in the distance (but is probably some sort of factory or power plant).
Explain yourself. What exactly is this box?
We offer a hand-crafted, beautifully packaged box of treats. More specific? Alright then. Each box contains a mystery second-hand or vintage book, beautifully wrapped (everyone loves a present), and alongside it will be something you can drink, something you can eat, and something you can admire. Each box is unique, so it's tough to be even more specific, but have a look at our instagram to see the sorts of things you might find.
Is everything really eco-friendly?
Yes! This is a real commitment that we have made, and we really want to ensure that we only include actual eco-friendly options. The packaging is made from fully recyclable materials, and the labels and tape can go straight into your recycling all together with the box. The edible treats will come (where possible) in biodegradable and/or sustainable packaging, and be ethically sourced. Any of the things to admire will also be sustainable and hand-made from recycled or repurposed materials. The ink we use for our stamps is non-toxic and vegan-friendly. Our ribbons are made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. You will not find anything in your box that cannot be recycled or popped into your compost.*
*In the very unlikely event that something makes its way in that does not conform to our high standards, then we will not send it out without a detailed explanation as to why this was unavoidable in this circumstance.
Can I give this as a gift?
Oh, please do! If you are ordering this for a gift, you'll have the option to add a message when you check out.
I loved my box! Can I subscribe?
Absolutely! We'd love it if you did. The contents will be different every time! You can subscribe to all of our boxes for 3, 6 or 12 months, and you can find that on the relevant product pages.
We will ship your first box when you sign up, and your subsequent boxes thereafter on the same date each month. So, for example, if you subscribe on 3rd October, we will ship your first box on or around the 5th October, and your next box on or around 5th November, and on we will go like that.
Giving to charity, eh?
Yes! We will be donating 10% of our profits to charity at the end of every year. The charity will change from time to time so that we can support a number of causes.
The charity we supported for 2020 was Acting for Others. 10% of profits from The Theatre Box will always go to Acting for Others.
The charity we will be supporting throughout 2021 with all of our other boxes is Cruse Bereavement Care.
Can I return my box?
Well, we'd prefer it if you didn't, but if you're really unhappy, then contact us and we'll do our best to sort something out.
You've sent me a box, but I already have this book! Waaah! What can I do?
Well, firstly, well done for having an extensive library. Never trust someone who doesn't have books in their home.
There are a few options here:
1. I sense a re-gift! Enjoy all of the other treats in your box, then lovingly re-wrap the book and give it to someone who'll benefit. Treats for you, and a good deed to boot.
2. Give the whole box to someone you love and re-order another for yourself?
3. If you really absolutely can't find a new way to get that book the love and attention it deserves, then get in touch and we'll do our best to sort something out for you.
Do you ship outside the UK?
We do! You can find the shipping options in the dropdown menu at the checkout. It will calculate the cost when you select your country.
I've eaten my treats, admired my items, and read the book you sent. But I didn't enjoy it. What are you going to do about it?
Erm, well, yes, this is a possibility. Literature is subjective, after all. One person's Harry Potter is another person's Lord of the Rings. (I'll leave you to decide which way round that one goes.)
Unfortunately we can't give you a refund for your box if you didn't enjoy your book. Perhaps you can give it to someone who might?
Although we can't refund you, if you're really desperate to get that book out of your life, contact us and we'll see if we can arrange an exchange, but do bear in mind that this may not always be possible.
Can I choose the book I receive?
We're afraid not. You will be able to select your preferred genre and your book will fall into that category, but due to the nature of this business, there's no real way for us to offer specific books.
Do I have to be at home to receive my box?
It depends. Our Tea Breaks are designed to fit beautifully through your letterbox, but that being said, we don't necessarily know the exact size of your letterbox, so if yours is very dainty or awkwardly positioned then the postman may have trouble. But this is possibly something you will have encountered before, so you probably know the best way to get around it.
A lot of our books will fit into letterbox sized boxes, but there are times when we need to send you a small parcel. If you're not in when the postie tries to deliver then they will leave you a card explaining how to rearrange delivery.
Will the book be in a total state?
No. We won't send any books that are covered in suspicious muck, completely falling apart or missing pages. However, we do ask that you bear in mind that many of our books are over 40 years old and have already been loved before they reach you. As such, there may be the odd loose leaf, or some cosmetic damage to a page or a cover. As books age the paper often takes on a delightful discoloured hue, and handling them over the years can cause some foxing. We recommend you treat your book with the care it deserves. Love it, and it will love you back.
The Book Club & Covid
We are very aware that the world is in a state of anxiety at the moment unlike no other. As such, we want to ensure you that we are following every precaution we possibly can so that you can be happy in the knowledge that your box will be completely safe. We are lovingly giving our books a gentle stroke with (non-damaging) antibacterial wipes, ensuring that all other contents are sanitised, and packing whilst wearing very chic eco-friendly gloves and a face covering.
This can all sound a bit alarming, but is standard, we promise!
We receive, collect and store any information you enter on our website or provide us in any other way. We also collect IP address used to connect your computer to the Internet. We may use software tools to measure and collect session information, including page response times, length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information, and methods used to browse away from the page. We only collect your name, contact details and payment details via PayPal or Wix. We do not store payment details, and will never use your personal details for anything other than sending you your box and noting down what books you have received.
Our company is hosted on the Wix.com platform. Wix.com provides us with the online platform that allows us to sell our products and services to you. Your data may be stored through Wix.com’s data storage, databases and the general Wix.com applications. They store your data on secure servers behind a firewall.
All direct payment gateways offered by Wix.com and used by our company adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS as managed by the PCI Security Standards Council, which is a joint effort of brands like Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. PCI-DSS requirements help ensure the secure handling of credit card information by our store and its service providers.
